Task – Installing an Engine on VW Amarok
    • During the initial inspection of the second-hand engine, we discovered a dent on the **vacuum pump housing** at the rear of the engine. Upon removal and dismantling, the pump was found to have internal damage beyond repair.
    • **Engine timing** was found to be out by 6mm on the cam. Our VW factory-trained technician corrected this using official VW tools and specs and installed a **new vacuum pump**.
    • After installation, the vehicle had **no compression** when attempting to start.
    • Diagnostics revealed that the **original vacuum pump had seized** due to the external impact. This seized pump sheared the gear off the camshaft, misaligning it and breaking the camshaft rockers.

VW Amarok engines are engineered with a **sacrificial rocker design**, which helps reduce damage to valves and pistons in timing-related failures (e.g., broken chains or belts).

    Recommendation & Resolution:

We recommended a **complete replacement of the cylinder head**, including bolts and gaskets — which the customer approved and we successfully completed.
